Born in Mexico in 1985, in a family of deep flamenco tradition. She is the niece of Carmen Amaya. At the age of only nine, Karime, daughter of Mercedes Amaya “La Winy” and the guitarist Santiago Aguilar, debuted in the company of her parents.
Karime has been performing as a soloist in the world’s most important forums and tablaos, and has shared the stage with Tomatito, Los Losada, Farruquito, Gerardo Nuñez and the lineup with dancers such as Maria Pages, Israel and Pastora Galván, Antonio Canales, Manuela Carrasco, Rafael and Adela Campallo, Torombo, Rafael del Carmen, Mario Maya’s company, Antonio “El Pipa”, the Farruco family, among many others.
She was a part of the Arts Presenters, 46th annual members conference in New York, and performed a very successful six-month season at “El Flamenco,” the most prestigious tablao in Tokyo, Japan. She was a guest artist in the shows “Bailaor” by Antonio Canales, “Frente a Frente” by dancer Juan de Juan, “Abolengo” by Juan Manuel Fernandez, “Farruiquito” and “Dicen de Mi” by Joaquín Cortés.
Throughout her career, she has participated in different festivals such as the Quito Flamenco Festival in Ecuador, the Flamenco Art Festival of Mont-de-Marsan in France, the Flamenco Art Festival in Monterrey, Mexico, the Festival of Jerez, Biennial of Seville, Suma Flamenca and the International Flamenco Festival of Albuquerque in New Mexico, USA.
In 2007 she made an extensive tour of the main cities of Japan, and presented at the National Center of Arts along with the National Dance Company of Mexico. In 2011, along with her family she premiered the show “Amaya Linaje,” a tribute to all the members of the Amaya Family, and participated as a leading actress in the documentary film “Bajari” by Eva Vila, a journalist, director and screenwriter of the University of Pompeu Fabra.
In 2012 he successfully presented her show “Desde la Orilla” at the Jerez festival, and in 2013, she performed across Europe along with dancers Pastora Galván and Paloma Fantova in the show “Con Carmen Amaya en la Memoria,” a tribute to Carmen Amaya. In 2014 she performed together with Paloma Fantova and Jesús Carmona in the show “Cuerpo, Mente, Alma” in the theater Lope de Vega Theatre in the Bienal of Seville, “Gala Flamenca” along with Antonio Canales and “8 códigos” with Carlos Carbonell.
In 2014, she participated in the Flamenco Festival cycle, performing at several tours in the US, China and Europe. She attended Suma Flamenca in 2016 with Jose Maya and Juana de Juan.
“Gitanerías” in Mexico, “Casa Patas”, “Las Carboneras”, “Cardamomo” and “El Cordobés” in Spain, and “El Flamenco” in Japan are some of the most emblematic tablaos that have witnessed the dancing of the Mexican native, and where she has shared the stage with the most prominent flamenco figures in the world.
